ABOUT US
La Chateau Learning Centre was started in 2011 on the Bateleur College campus. It provided a Home School option for siblings of Bateleur College from Grades 4 to 10 and was a registered Brainline Tutor Centre offering the Brainline distance learning curriculum until 2016.
The Learning Centre closed at the end of 2016, having successfully operated for 6 years and having all of our learners progress to mainstream schools after graduating from La Chateau. In 2017 Bateleur College opened it's first Grade 7 class and the Learning Centre was closed.
The Covid 19 pandemic and the educational crisis made us decide to reopen the Centre and offer a new distance learning service to our Bateleur College parents at that time. We successfully continued to teach our Bateleur College curriculum to all learners from Grades R to 9 using video and worksheets via the Telegram service as well as afternoon tutor sessions at Bateleur College. This operated from June until the end of December 2020, proving that it was a viable option .
Our learners returned to attend classes at Bateleur College in 2021 (while still paying Learning Centre fees). We phased out the Learning Centre at the end of 2022 as most learners had re-enrolled for Bateleur College.
We are now relaunching the Learning Centre as we have realised that many parents would prefer to have a no fuss/no frills quality option that provides affordable, quality education with the option of more participation and control of their children's education.
There will be basic uniforms (the Bateleur College sports uniform) and shorter school days (07h30 to 13h30). Learners will report to the Learning Centre every morning and will be escorted to the Bateleur College campus where they will attend class with Bateleur College learners. Their school day will end at 13h30. There will be no sports, physical education, creative arts, camps, after care, holiday care, assembly, events, cultural days or extra mural activities.
Enrolment will be limited to 5 learners per grade for Grades 4 to 7, subject to space in Bateleur College classes.
In the future, as the Learning Centre becomes more established the classes will be held in our own building and taught by facilitators using our established Bateleur College curriculum for Grades 4 through 7. The exams will be invigilated and marked by Bateleur College educators.
We will also be expanding to Grades 8 through 12 using the Bateleur College curriculum. Grade 8 will launch in 2026 and we will add a grade each year.
